I want to get my license because it is something that I need to get out of the way now. I don’t have a car or plan on driving until I can even afford auto insurance but this summer is the only time I have free to get my license. I’m 20 and in college.
My mom said that until I’m 21 that I would have to go under her insurance automatically…even though I don’t have a car or plan on driving at college…that’s the only reason I’m confused as to why i’d have to pay. Her insurance would go up if I don’t plan on driving.

Why the hell would you need insurance IF YOU DON’T OWN A CAR?
You don’t need auto insurance unless you have a car/truck (whatever).
As far as I know NO. If you have no car you should not need insurance.
Auto insurance is for ur car. If ur going to drive someone else’s car then i guess u should get insurance, but if u don’t plan on driving, then i guess u shouldn’t.
chek it.. if u dont have a car u dont need it.. u can always get a non owners policy tho, that will cover u in any car u drive.. if the car ur gona be drivin is insured by someone u dont need it.. wen u buy a car some dealer require insurance some dont.. its all you
I can’t believe a 20 year old college student(is it special ed. beauty college?) is asking this question.
It would seem to make sense that you dont need car insurance if you dont own a car to insure. But at least here in Ohio, I’m pretty sure you have to have car insurance in order to DRIVE a car. And I’ve been asked by the BMV to show proof of insurance in order to renew my license.
I know that if you get pulled over, then you are required to show license, registration, and proof of insurance. My aunt was pulled over and then ticketed because she didnt have her insurance card with her while driving. It was a random check! And I’ve never had it happen to me, but I’ve seen state sponsered commercials where the state mails you a form requesting proof of insurance.
But dont just go by what is listed on here. If you have doubts, look it up in your state laws. They usually are on web and fairly straight forward. And its better to have minimum coverage than to get a citation.
if you aren’t driving, you don’t need insurance – and actually, i think that you could borrow a friends’ car where THEY have insurance, you would be okay.
You can’t insure what you don’t own. As long as you are not going to drive, you don’t need insurance. My State only asks for proof of insurance when you renew your plates, not your license.
Car insurance is for the car and not for the driver. If you dont have the car, you wont insure anything, but if you do have and then and it very important to insure it. You can try to visit this cheap car insurance site if there would be a time that you have already your car and planning to have a car, who knows? http://www.nightbirdssolutions.com collect some quotations from here and read about car insurance so that you can have a much cheaper car insurance payments provider.

You get insurance on your car, not yourself. If you don’t have a car you have nothing to insure.
Short answer…you don’t need insurance.
