Democratic Senators joined seniors’ advocates today to discuss Senator Michael Bennet’s amendment to protect and improve guaranteed Medicare benefits. The Senate health care bill will strengthen Medicare for the future and protect seniors’ benefits by making prescription drugs more affordable and ensuring Medicare funds go to improving seniors’ care — not to insurance companies. “[This amendment] honors our commitment that we have made to our seniors,” said Bennet. Highlighting recent Republican Senators’ scare tactics aimed at seniors, Senator Tom Harkin said, “I’m saddened that some of my colleagues from the Republican side have resorted to the politics of fear in their attempt to preserve a broken health care system that favors the health insurance industry and drug companies at the expense of our elderly and working families.”
