United States Constitution; Article I, Section 8:

“The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States”

Healthcare falls very clearly into the general welfare its citizens.

At the time the Constitution was adopted, some interpreted the welfare clause as granting Congress a broad power to pass any legislation it pleased, so long as its asserted purpose was promotion of the general welfare.

One of the Constitution’s drafters, James Madison, objected to this reading of the clause, arguing that it was inconsistent with the concept of a government of limited powers and that it rendered the list of enumerated powers redundant. He argued that the General Welfare clause granted Congress no additional powers other than those enumerated.

@filmmakerjoe27 – I live in the Peoples Republic of California, no guns at the local kmart. You can by guns here, but not if they LOOK military or have clips that hold more than 10 rounds. You can carry concealed weapons, if you’re a friend of the county sheriff. It’s not so much the taxes I complain about, it’s the goverment spending money that it doesn’t have and raising the debt.

@laleeloolelo , Lets talk about HIV. It’s a disease that is 99% preventable. The liberal media tried to sell the people that this was not just a gay disease but we know now that was a lie. Liberal have been teaching our children “if it feels good do it”. I can’t live other peoples lives for them, so why do I have to foot the bill for THEIR behavior? The fact is, we can’t keep everyone alive without destroying the country with debt. We all die, that is nature!

@hughster41 Unfortunately HIV isn’t preventable for children who are BORN WITH IT.

They require expensive ongoing treatments which i think would require more than a church bingo night.

The same thing goes for kids with genetic or pre natal disease.

Don’t you want to keep the kids alive?

I thought you don’t like “death panels” /Sarcasm,

Your illogical argument makes me think that libertarianism is to politics like “intelligent design” is to science.

@laleeloolelo I am all for keeping kids alive that can live some kind of fulfilling life. I don’t believe we should keep anyone alive just for the sake of life. I know I would not want to be hooked up to tubes and machines if I was not going to recover. I am not against health care reform, I am against the corruption the democrats used to pass this crapy bill.

I remember back when Bush is president you’re his supporter.

Do you also feel that way when he passed Patriot Act?

Or when he signed legislation to keep Terry Schiavo alive?
